Everybody knows that ‘where you stay’ makes all the difference when planning a holiday. We would go as far as saying it’s probably more important than the destination itself. Unless the destination is your own private island situated somewhere hauntingly exotic.
Living 360° has put together a delectable medley of the world’s most astonishingly beautiful private islands resorts and here are 5 of our favourites!
Sit back (put on some sun screen) and enjoy being transported to paradise and beyond.
1. Motu Tane, French Polynesia
It is almost impossible to find the right words or phrases to describe this incredibly romantic piece of paradise. Many before have tried and all descriptions lead to the same conclusion, that Motu Tane is one of a kind and will leave a lasting memory.
This stunning little island is situated just across the channel from the main island of Bora Bora. The island is rented out to one party at a time so guests can enjoy uber privacy in world-class settings. World-class designer Christian Liaigre is responsible for the awe-inspiring interiors of thatched roof bungalows, which can accommodate up to 30 guests.
Getting there: Located just minutes by boat from the main island of Bora Bora in French Polynesia, Motu Tane is reached by convenient overnight flights from Los Angeles to Tahiti. From Tahiti, it is a 45-minute flight to Bora Bora. The friendly staff from the resort will greet and accompany you on the short 10 minute boat ride to the private island.
2.Turtle Island, Fiji
Perhaps one of the most sought after weddings and honeymoon destination in the region, this breathtaking sanctuary sits on 500 acres and boast 14 sparkling beaches. A very short floatplane from the main island will get you there in style.
Accommodation on the island is world class and referred to as ‘bures’. All 14 bures are accompanied by a personal butler or bure Mama who will make sure your every whim is looked after. They have even named a bure after Brooke Shields – ask for the bure Brooke!
The property overlooks the island’s blue lagoon – a perfect place to go swimming and in the evening, private meals can also be served here. If you are feeling more adventurous, explore the island on horseback or grab a mountain bike for the resort. The natural fauna of the island is one you won’t see anywhere else on the planet.
Oh did we mention the floating ‘romance’?
3. Tagomago Island, Spain
Tagomago is one of the very few private islands in the Mediterranean which can be rented either as a family holiday resort or a lavish party destination for the world’s elite.
Located approx. 900 m from the Ibizan coastline. It can be easily reached from Pou des Lleó or from the popular harbour of Santa Eulalia. From there, Ibiza town is 30 minutes by car.
With that said, you will find billionaire party boys staying here while enjoying the Ibiza season – allowing them absolute privacy & relaxation.
The island is considered by many to be one of the most privileged places in Europe and with it’s on private mooring facility for luxury yachts, it also becomes Europe’s most privileged ‘after party’ destination!! Whatever happens on the island, stays on the island!
4. Musha Cay, The Bahamas
Now you see it – now you don’t!
Musha Cay is a 150 acre privately owned island in the Exuma Chain, in the southern Bahamas. It is located 137 km southeast of Nassau and owned by illusionist David Copperfield.
Being the perfectionist that he is, Copperfield has made sure that every detail in this resort meets the vision set out to create. The resort captures the romance and elegance of luxury island living of bygone eras.
The architecture is colonial English, which amalgamates beautifully into the natural habitat and rich tropical surroundings. The balconies are made of handcrafted Mahogany and offers ‘to-die-for’ panoramic views of the turquoise waters ahead.
You will get a staff of 30 to make sure your every whim is met – this includes a butler and private gardener.
5. Coco Privé, Kuda Hithi Island, Maldives
The Maldives is the smallest Asian country in both population and land area which boasts thousand of small islands scattered over its territory of 90,000 square km’s. Though it can be said that the islands sparkle like jewels on a very extravagant necklace, but the centrepiece would have to be the Kuda Hithi Island.
With its sugar white sand beaches and aquamarine sea, the Coco Privé Kuda Hithi Island is the ultimate private island retreat in the Maldives. A tremendous feat of classic design and modern architecture, this Maldivian masterpiece is the result of a successful collaboration between the clever folks at Coco Privé and the equally brilliant and award-winning architect, Guz Wilkinson.
The island sleeps around 12 adults at any one time and has everything from Jacuzzis, private outdoor showers, cocktail bars, exclusive wine cellar and even a library.
Getting there is easy too, once you arrive at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in Malé, you will be whisked away unto a private luxury yacht to begin the breathtaking journey to your island hideaway.
We hope that you have enjoyed this journey as much as we have. Living 360° has been fortunate enough to be invited to review some absolutely stunning resorts and we can’t wait to share our experience with you all. Stay tuned for more.
Until then, be well and keep traveling!
