Osteria Perano is a charming and inviting restaurant located in the heart of the Tuscan wine country, in the small town of Gaiole in Chianti. Set in a beautifully restored 19th-century villa, the restaurant offers a warm and intimate atmosphere, with rustic decor and a cozy fireplace that adds to the ambiance.


The menu at Osteria Perano features traditional Tuscan cuisine with a contemporary twist, using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. The dishes are beautifully presented and reflect the restaurant's commitment to using high-quality and fresh ingredients. The wine list is extensive, with a focus on the local Chianti Classico wines, but also includes a great selection of Italian and international wines.


To begin our meal at Osteria Perano, we indulged in the deep-fried artichokes, which were served crispy with a light and refreshing batter. The dish was a perfect balance of texture and flavor, with the tender artichokes perfectly complemented by the crispy batter. The dish was served with a tangy aioli dipping sauce, which added a touch of creaminess and depth to the dish. It was a delightful start to our meal, and we highly recommend this dish to anyone visiting Osteria Perano.


It's important to note that Osteria Perano is committed to using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients whenever possible, and the deep-fried artichokes we enjoyed were no exception. The artichokes were sourced from local farmers in the nearby region, adding to the freshness and authenticity of the dish. For the main event, we enjoyed a variety of main courses, each one highlighting the restaurant's commitment to using locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. One of our favorites was the fresh risotto, which was perfectly balanced with lemon drops and sardines. The flavors were well balanced, and the lemon added a refreshing note to the rich and savory sardines.


We also indulged in the lightly battered fried chicken dish, which was served with fluffy mayo. The chicken was sourced from local farms, ensuring the highest quality and freshest taste. The batter was light and crispy, and the chicken itself was juicy and tender. The dish was elevated by the creamy mayo, which added a tangy and slightly sweet note to the savory chicken.


Lastly, we tried the grilled cod dish, which was served on a bed of elegantly cooked artichokes. The fish was line-caught by local fishermen, ensuring the sustainability and freshness of the ingredient. The cod was perfectly grilled, with a crispy exterior and a moist and flaky interior. The artichokes were cooked to perfection, adding a subtle earthy flavor to the dish.


Overall, the main courses at Osteria Perano were exceptional, with each dish showcasing the restaurant's commitment to using high-quality and locally sourced ingredients. The flavors were well balanced, the presentation was beautiful, and the quality of the ingredients was evident in each bite. We highly recommend trying these dishes when visiting Osteria Perano.


Now for the most important part of the dining experience, desert. We were pleasantly surprised by the unique and creative flavors on offer. One standout dessert we tried was the rosemary ice cream, which was unlike anything we had tasted before. The ice cream was infused with fresh rosemary, and the dish was finished with a sprinkle of rosemary flakes and sea salt, adding an interesting and unexpected dimension to the dessert.


But what truly elevated this dessert was the generous pour of the estate's highest-grade olive oil, which added a rich and smooth finish to the dish. The combination of the earthy rosemary, the sweet ice cream, and the rich olive oil created a complex and unforgettable flavor that we are still talking about to this day.


The Wine


Osteria Perano is located in the heart of Tuscany's Chianti Classico region, so it's no surprise that the restaurant offers an impressive wine list featuring some of the area's best wines. One of the highlights of the wine list is the Chianti Classico, which is a must-try for anyone visiting the region.


Chianti Classico is a red wine made primarily from Sangiovese grapes grown in the Chianti region of Tuscany. It is characterized by its bright acidity, medium body, and notes of cherry, plum, and earthy undertones. The wine is aged for a minimum of 12 months in oak barrels, giving it a complex and well-rounded flavor profile.



When visiting Tuscany, trying the local Chianti Classico is a must. The wine perfectly complements the rich flavors of the local cuisine, and its bright acidity helps to cut through the richness of the dishes.
