In a pulsating city like Bangkok, you are spoilt for choices when it comes to 5 Star accommodation. The city boasts some great hotels from the major chains but if you want something a little more curated to an edgier lifestyle – then the W Hotel Bangkok is where you need to be. Period.
Our stay here was brief but spectacular nonetheless. It was almost like they knew exactly the type of experience we wanted and were there to deliver it.
Upon check-in we were greeted by the gorgeous Guest Services Manager Patrika who was quick to introduce herself and made it clear that she was there to help with whatever and whenever! That’s right, for those of us who have experienced the signature W 24/7 Whatever/Whenever® service will know that they mean it when they say – they can get you anything you want, which is quickly followed by “as long as it’s legal”. Now that’s my kind of hotel. More on this service later.
Located in what’s referred to as Bangkok’s CBD area, the property is minutes walk from the BTS Skytrain and a few stops away from the shopping & entertainment districts of Silom and Sukhumvit. Don’t bother with cabs as the BTS is much quicker and very efficient.
The rooms at this hotel are hip and comes with all the mod-cons I would love to have in my own home. Everything from a centrally controlled iPad where you can monitor the room temperature, lighting and even set wake up calls – all at a flick of a few buttons.
In true Thai style, the golden boxing gloves were an knock-out hit.
When it comes to food, the W Bangkok has got you covered. The Kitchen Table and The Kitchen Pantry offers up a relaxed themed dining room with a great menu suited for every taste. Of course I couldn’t refuse the “My Burger / My Style” option which was presented to me like I would be crazy if I didn’t order it. They were right.. again!
If alfresco is your thing, then the W Terrace has the makings of a West Hollywood terrace during an episode of Entourage. Cool? – we think so.
You know you are staying at the right spot when people are coming to your hotel to hang out at the hotel bar. Nothing beats some cheeky cocktails at WOOBAR where they have amalgamated music, lighting, cocktails and a great food menu to deliver a multi-sensory experience.

One thing that this amazing hotel chain do very well, is create content for a generation hungry for it. I personally enjoyed the yoga sessions with the energetic “yogi rebel” Tara Stiles who has teamed up with the chain globally to provide some very good in-room yoga exercises for those in the mood for a stretch.

The standout service for us by far would be the 24/7 Whatever/Whenever® service. We had ordered something from a department store at the Paragon mall and had planned to come back a few days later to pick it up. We were exhausted that night and decided to try out the service. We gave them horrible instructions (not deliberately) on what the name of the store was and who we spoke to, and yet they managed to track down what we ordered, paid for it and went to pick it up. The items were delivered to our room and everything was charged to our bill. All while we sipped on dirty martinis by the pool. Boom!
If you are looking for a cookie cutter 5-star hotel experience in one of Asia’s most dynamic cities, don’t’ stay here. This 403 room and 34 suites hotel has an great attitude and knows how to party, if that sounds like you, head down and ask for Patrika when you check in – tell her Amanda sent you.
